Although not a bona fide autism app, Family Medical History is extremely practical for not only tracking your child's medical history, but also everyone else's in the family. It offers password protection too. But, be warned, if you set a password you better remember it because there's no way to recover a lost password! You'd be forced to reinstall the app and that means, depending on when you last sync'ed your iPhone to your computer, you'd lose all your data. Ugh! Nobody wants to go through that.
Family Medical History is nicely organized into logical categories. And you can add a picture of each person to their profile along with their name, date of birth, and so forth. This app gives you a convenient place for storing info about medications, allergies, infectious diseases, diagnostic examinations, vaccinations, surgeries, and more. There's a place to store your Social Security number, important telephone numbers, and even your health insurance info. It would be very handy to have this info at your fingertips whether you're in the hospital or just seeing a general practitioner for a check-up.
A simple list at heart, Family Medical History, has incorporated all the little things a typical family would need in order to have a handy reference of everyone's medical history. But, remember, having a child with autism means that we don't have a typical family. And that, of course, means there are some extra features that I'd love to see added to Family Medical History in order to make it more ideal for those of us who have atypical families.
To make this app more suited for us atypical autism families I'd love to see a section added to the Family Medical History app that allows us to input info regarding therapies and interventions. That includes occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, speech therapy, and on and on. It'd be great if there was a spot to input the who, where, and how often those therapies are taking place. It'd be even better if we could have a spot for notes and progress. That addition would really make the app more useful to families like mine.
The medication section could be expanded to include alerts of when to take meds and what dosage. Phone numbers for refills, info on side effects, and maybe what the particular medication is treating would be fantastic too!
The developer has a VERY similar app called Child Medical History (It's almost identical) that ought to be merged with this one somehow. If you're gonna buy one of them, buy Family Medical History over Child Medical History.
I've noticed that under the surgeries section it says 'Executed by' when it should say 'Performed by.' After all, if you were executed you would no longer need this app - you'd need a mortician!
