Making Sequences

Making Sequences is a beautiful app for your iPad. What does it do? Um, it helps children learn sequencing, putting things in order. And it does it nicely.

The app has several sequences included by default. Each one is 3 to 5 steps in length. You get images and associated audio with each card. 'Card' is what I'm calling each picture in the sequence. Audio is pre-recorded. Under the settings you can choose which sequences to use. This allows you to target certain ones, perhaps sequences that have not yet been mastered.

When reordering the cards you just touch and drag the picture to where you think it belongs. You can take your time and adjust them the way you think they should go. The cards sort of float into position like clouds when you move them.

Your child having trouble? The Learn function lets kids see and hear the proper sequence before they attempt the task. That's great and especially helpful for children with autism and other special needs.

When the sequences are assembled in the wrong order I like how this app encourages you to try again. Positive reinforcement! There's no discouraging sound or a voice that says "WRONG!" You're simply encouraged to try again.

Autism music available via CD or MP3

Naturally, if you like, you can make your own sequences with your own pictures and your own voice (up to five steps). It's a smooth and easy process. My only beef is that when using your own pictures in this app, they are elongated. Their original aspect ratio is not kept intact. My son doesn't look quite as good with his face stretched.

If you wanted to totally tailor this app to your child, using only your own sequences, the power is yours! That kind of flexibility is a major reason why this would work so well for children with autism and other special needs.

You can turn the text and audio on/off as you desire. The text labels help with reading comprehension though.

With just the touch of a button you can shuffle the cards if you like.

The app is stable. I couldn't crash it.

If you're looking to make your own sequences this looks like the app to have! Another quality app from Zorten.
