This is one of the more complete apps I've seen, especially where assistive technology is concerned. Proloquo2Go is revolutionizing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) almost on its own! Dynavox should take notice and develop their own app otherwise they're missing the bus on the new era of AAC. The AAC market is changing and the developers of Proloquo2Go are now on the cutting edge.
If you're not familiar with what it does, this app essentially puts the power of communication in the hands of someone who otherwise cannot communicate orally. It doesn't need much improvement, yet the developers are constantly looking at ways to improve it. Kudos to them! This is a great tool for non-verbal children since it does all the speaking for them! Your kid can touch the icon on the screen and Proloquo2Go talks. It can form sentences too; even picture sentences. It turns the iTouch into a comprehensive communication device with a huge vocabulary, vast library of icons, and pretty natural sounding voices. This autism app is highly customizable from the words and pictures to the colors of the interface! For instance, you can set it to speak as Nelly, Kenny, Heather, or Ryan depending on who is going to be using the device. You can even download more voices, adjust the rate of speech, adjust the vocabulary size, and so much more. This is one autism app that brings all the functionality you could want, and I mean it.
You can type on it, press speak, and Proloquo2Go says what you typed in. That's called text-to-speech. This app has received more press than many of its counterparts, and rightly so. If your child is non-verbal you might want to consider Proloquo2Go. This is a definite over achiever and a complete AAC solution, top to bottom. It's also universally compatible with all the Apple devices, including iPad. So there's no need to purchase one version for the iPhone and another for the iPad like you must do with other apps. Proloquo2Go looks great on the iPad too!
The way Proloquo2Go is organized is a big deal also. It's organized in such a way that it's natural to progress from one area (or category of words & phrases) to the next. Having it organized like that is a big plus. High-Res graphics packed into an almost 7000 word/symbol library. Wow.
VGA out is now supported. That means you can connect a projector to your iPad or iPhone and see it on the screen. Nice. It also has a feature that lets you correct any mispronunciations. Some people may think Proloquo2Go is expensive at $189. But when you compare it to AAC devices like the Dynavox V-Max this is one extremely inexpensive app.
Proloquo2Go scores big time as a serious augmentative and alternative communication app - and that makes it a fantastic autism app!
