good morning everyone! before football gets going, i felt the need to give a short update on the ipod.
first, i want to say thank you to shane for all of the information he has posted on the ipod applications. he put a lot of research into this and it has been so helpful to us. we have so far downloaded about five different applications. and guess what! we can not keep up with sir dantes!
it was suppose to be the big yule gift for him. but, we were so excited about it that we let him have a test run. mistake! we just can’t take it from him. after only the third day, he has learn how to navigate the “key pad” to switch from one application to another. he has mastered some of the applications and my husband has already had to one up them to the next hardest level. but, what has really surprised me the most is learning that my son already possesses the ability to spell.
Follow up:
which means that he can already read simple three and four letter words. he can spell and read “cup, bath, bee, desk…” we discovered this on the game that shows the pictures and the letters. the letters are scrambled up and you have to put them in order to move on to the next picture. it starts out simple showing you where the letters go, but you can then take away the prompts. now he may have already known these words, or maybe he has just memorized them. i am not sure, but regardless he knows them now.
without the ipod tool i am not sure when we would have discovered this since he doesn’t talk and can not write. which goes to show that the levels of normalcy differs with each child with autism. just because your child can not speak does not mean he can not read or spell. you just have to find the right tool to help them.
anyway, this has been so far, a great tool. we are also downloading some applications ms. maxie can play with when her brother is taking a nap. she already has a computer in her room, but we are all kinda in love with this little ipod. i can see that within a year or so we all have one! they are fun. so have a great day all! take care and happy holidays.
